Data we collect

We collect only what the service needs:

• Account data — your email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
• Preferences — your interface language and, if you sign in, your favorite and hidden categories, sources and tags.
• Activity — articles you click, counted for popularity (including for signed-out visitors), and, for signed-in users, your reading history and saved bookmarks.

Cookies

We use only functional cookies: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and a locale cookie that remembers your language. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

How we use your data

We use your data only to run and personalize the service: to sign you in, build your personal feed, rank trending stories, and show the interface in your language. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Sharing and third parties

We do not sell your personal data. Headlines and excerpts are aggregated from third-party news sources through their public RSS feeds; following a link takes you to the original publisher, whose own policies then apply. Our hosting provider processes data on our behalf solely to operate the site.

Data retention

News articles are removed automatically about 90 days after publication, except those you have saved. Your account data is kept until you delete your account, after which it is erased together with your preferences, bookmarks and history.

Your rights

You can view and update your data in your profile, change your password, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your data or to complain to a data-protection authority. To exercise any right, contact us.

Security and children

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and all traffic is encrypted over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data. Gazetaro is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
